How We Select Books
Our group has enjoyed reading a balance of fiction/nonfiction, old/recent, English/translated, at least one play each year, and occasionally poetry. Every other year (now odd-numbered years) we have a "Night of Favorite Poetry" for the June meeting.
The Book Discussion Group did not meet in July and August during its early years, so the selection of a December title was postponed until the fall, in case someone heard of an interesting book over the summer. We now meet during the summer months, so we no longer observe this practice.
In early autumn the moderator distributes a preliminary list of suggestions - titles left over from recent years and others newly proposed. Members of the group add additional titles for consideration. Then at the end of November's discussion we choose, by consensus, a dozen books for the following year.
